 | | X-Factor Winner 2005 | Well, it seemed it was on the cards from the beginning of the X-Factor show tonight. Finally, we have a winner... Shayne Ward. Whilst Andy gave it his best shot and actually pulled out all the stops with 3 fantastic perfromances, he was pipped at the post by Shayne Ward from Manchester.
The third remaining act, Journey South, although impressive, couldnt really compete with the quality of the other 2 acts and were the first act to be voted out.
Having an amazing 10 million votes, the X-Factor sure made a lot of money from the calls and texts. It has been said that Simon Cowell alone had made over £10,000,000 from the show. Of course, Shayne now walks off into the sunset with his £1,000,000 recording deal, but we are yet to see if his single, "Thats my goal" will be the Xmas number 1. The bookmakers have him down as favourite.
Andy performed well on the night, as did all the contestants, and there was only 1.2% between Shayne and Andy when the final results came in. Although Shayne is possibly more marketable as a pop star, I think pound for pound, Andy has the stronger voice and produced some amazing vocal performances on the last show.
The overall standard of singers was much higher this year, with exception to Chico who just grates at me with his "look at me" prima donna, attention seeking behaviour. Even when Shayne had won and was enjoying the publicity and attention a little, Chico couldnt resist diving in front of the camera to get his face back on the TV. Give it up lad, you had your chance and failed. He never really could sing but was noted for his entertainment value.
Personally, he made me cringe so much with his cheesy, over-the-top behaviour, that I was glad to see him go. Sadly, I suspect we have not seen the last of him, or his Chico Time song and slogan, yet. |
