That stupid question thing... E-mail
Written by Baz
One thing that really REALLY annoys me, is that thing people do where they make a statement, but say it like its a question! What on earth is all that about? Their sentence pitch actually RISES at the end...as opposed to dropping in the natural manner. Why?
Vicky.. yeh but no!
Im a thick prat?

This speech problem occurs mainly in teenagers, and primarily, teenagers from cities.... why? I havent a bloody clue, but its annoying no matter where they live!

Come on, you must know what im talking about? Where some spotty teenager will be there waffling on about how many of the opposite sex they have slept with... and their statements will be like they are asking me!! Like i know the answer, or even give a toss! It will go something like this.... and I have added the question marks to show you what im talking about... its NOT my bad grammar:

"I was walking down the street?... and this guy came up to me?... and he said hello?"

The conversation above... SHOULD have gone like this... and would have done if it was me they were talking to:

Foolish Teen: I was walking down the street?

Me: Dont know

Foolish Teen: and this guy came up to me?

Me: Dont know

Foolish Teen: ..and he said hello?

Me: How the feck do i know!! You are supposed to be TELLING me, not fecking ASKING me! Use proper English, you stupid cow!

So, NOW you know what im talking about right? Yes... annoying isnt it!! Tell you what, lets attempt to stop this stupid craze in its tracks, and everybody who comes over to you and begins talking like the conversation above...simply reply the way I would and explain that if they cant be arsed to learn English properly, and the whole concept of a question... then bugger off and talk to somebody else, who is on their pathetic wavelength! Job done!

...answer to this question is that teenagers need to hear the usual mmm and ah and oh in between everything they say, and to make sure they get those replies they set a question mark after each thing they say. As this is usually girly stuff and girls like to have inputs on everything even if it is just a short mmm. Or even the long question, "Was he cute?" question. haha.
