I love the 50's. no, not the 1850's, Im talking about the "you've never had it so good, Rock and Rolling" 1950's. I love the things we had back then (I dont remember, I've read it in a book) stuff like Cool cars, no violence, long hot summers, people saying "Good Morning" to you in the street, (a bit weird if it was night time) TV news readers wearing dickie bows, even radio announcers wore them, snow at Christmas.
Ok ok, I know, rose tinted glasses and all that, but I'm sure, according to the people I've spoken to who were there, it was a more happier time. Of course the second world war had not long ended and people were looking forward to a life not threatened by bombs or invasion from another country. And it was the end of rationing. The feeling of optimism must have been wonderful. Then of course, there was the massive American influence, clothes, household items, cars, decor, films, television programmes and Rock and Roll and Rockabilly music. Dont get me wrong, in my first description, of course we had violence but maybe not on the scale and not as vicious as it is now. But one thing I am certain about.....we DID have proper Summers!!
