The UK is in mourning.. again! E-mail
Written by Baz
Well, today the legendary George Best passed away. Some will say "serves him right" whilst others will be deeply upset... sometimes to the point of ridiculous. Its a sad moment in history, as far as im concerned. I know George Best threw away his second chance at a new start in life. But despite his selfishness, and the obvious argument of whether he deserved the new liver or not, it still seems really sad. For all his faults, he seemed like quite a decent guy, and although he led a self destructive life, I wonder how many of us would live a playboy lifestyle if we had the money he had? I know I would be tempted.

But whilst im a little sad that George has passed away, Im not about to go into mourning. It seems I may be the odd one out, as the rest of the UK slip into deep sadness again, despite never actually meeting him. Why do people in the UK do this? It seems its "cool" today to be in mourning over something and using these daft phrases like "the country is in mourning today"... because not all of us are. Does this bear a striking resemblence to when Princess Diana died? In fact, there have been several occasions when our country is in "deep mourning" recently, all of which are rather pointless.

When Princess Diana died, I stuck to my original views of her, which is that I dont like her and that she manipulated the public and the press to make her out to be some sort of angel. Yet, having heard report from some of her staff about the way she conducted herself behind closed doors, it seems she was a selfish, arrogant and rude with people. Therefore, I refused to be upset when she died. Why would I? I never actually met her, nor did I want to. But when she passed away, which admitedly was a shame, at least I kept to my views and didnt change my mind. this made me quite unpopular among the "grieving people" I met.... but I dont care. I think many of them are hypocrites.

We had people leaving flowers, crying their eyes out, standing outside Buckingham Palace "grieving" and even signing condolence books etc. Now, bear in mind that some of these people have graves in the local cemetary of their own family, and they never made this much fuss when they passed away. Its absolutely pathetic. Its just everybody wants to be a part of the big group, and if the group are going to grieve, then everybody joins in. Get a mind of your own for fecks sake!

One lad I know, his mum passed away about 3 years before Diana, and he has visited her graveside 4 times since the death, yet he can make the time to walk to the local town hall, sign the condolense book and leave flowers. I bet his own mother wishes he would make that much effort for her! Its mad, and I even went as far as to tell him that. Naturally, he was shocked at my "uncaring nature"... or perhaps he was just shocked that I have a mind of my own and refuse to behave like a sheep!

Of course, on the day that Diana died, all the public hypocrites come crawling out of the woodwork. One guy on a popular radio show (which I shall not name yet) was busy taking the piss out of Diana and Dodi the week before their death. He was ridiculing them for the way they behaved when together etc, and even made several borderline-racist comments... yet on the day she died, he was giving it the old "what a sad day for the UK as a whole" etc etc.. Obviously he had forgotten that he was ripping the piss out of them for the previous 5 days! Hypocritical plonker!

Frankly, I dont care about Diana dying. She got about as much sympathy from me, as the old lady down the road who passed away recently. That because I didnt know either of them particularly well. So, why would I be in grieving? Im not, nor was I ever. It was just a sad shame, thats all.

Just stop following the crowd, and ask yourself... are you REALLY upset and grieving, or are you just following the crowd!

yeah he would of been 60 years old...if he was actually still alive. No doubt he was a football legend...about 35 years ago. He's dead get over it, he hasn't got anymore birthdays as he's dead.
