Once in the Olympic history there was a hockey game in Lake Placid: USA vs. Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had always won the hockey finals over the Americans. And history would not be any different, this was the feeling in the air at 1980 Lake Placid. That was ages ago and mens hockey. On Friday the same thing happened again but in the semi finals and with women hockey. The USA were the obvious winners and Sweden the obvious losers. But with a huge heart at the right spot and a fighting spirit made of steal David once more beat Goliath. After a nail biting three period game with the result of 2 - 2 the game was set for over time and nothing happened there too. So the game got to the shootout where the goalie Kim Martin of Sweden took all the four shots at her and could make an easy game for the rest of the team to set the puck in the net. So the game ended with 2 - 3 to Sweden. When the girls were asked about how on earth they could make such a miracle they smiled, cried and said that they had watched a Kurt Russel movie called Miracle on Ice. You know the movie about the Lake Placid Olympics where USA beaten up Soviet. What an irony that an US movie killed the US stars in women hockey at such an crucial time. But of cause this will be the best thing for the game. Because what a drag if only USA and Canada get to the finals in women hockey again and what a drag if the sport can't get global.
